Workshop on Review and Approval of Work-Based Learning Guideline Concludes Successfully

Vangvieng, Lao PDR – April 30, 2025 – With the generous support of the ASEAN-Swiss TVET Initiative (ASTI),

a two-day workshop on the Review and Approval of the Work-Based Learning (WBL) Guideline was successfully held from April 29–30, 2025, at the Academy Training Hotel and Restaurant Conference Room in Vangvieng.

Chaired by Mr. Tingkham Soulintha, Deputy Director General of the Department of Technical and Vocational Education (DVET), Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES), the workshop gathered representatives from government ministries, development partners, and technical experts to enhance the quality and relevance of TVET in Lao PDR.

The primary objective was to review, validate, and finalize the WBL Guideline, ensuring clarity, contextual relevance, and practical applicability. This guideline is a key instrument for structured Work-Based Learning implementation in Vientiane Capital, with plans for nationwide expansion.

Participants engaged in productive discussions on technical terminology, alignment with national WBL models, and harmonization with existing TVET policies and practices. Their contributions will refine the guideline, fostering stronger industry-education collaboration and demand-driven skills development.

The workshop marks a significant milestone in advancing sustainable WBL in Lao PDR, improving employment opportunities for learners and workforce productivity for enterprises. The revised guideline reflects shared stakeholder insights while ensuring technical precision.

This initiative strengthens public-private partnerships in TVET, enhances WBL quality and relevance, and aligns skills training with labor market needs. The finalized guideline will serve as a key reference for enterprises and training providers in vocational education partnerships.
