HELVETAS Strengthens Cooperation with LNCCI to Advance Human Resource Development in Laos

Vientiane, Lao PDR – February 12, 2025.

The Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LNCCI) hosted a high-level meeting with representatives from HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation to discuss strengthening collaboration on key initiatives related to workforce development and business sector engagement.

Mr. Juerg Merz, Continental Coordinator Asia and Regional Coordinator for Bangladesh and Laos, and Mr. Jesper Lauridsen, Country Director of HELVETAS Laos, met with Dr. Xaybandith Rasphone, Vice President of LNCCI, and Mr. Phouxay Thepphavong, Secretary General of LNCCI, along with LNCCI representatives at the LNCCI’s office in Vientiane Capital.

Key Discussion Points:

• LNCCI’s Role as a Bridge Between State and Bunisness sector – LNCCI’s mission in representing employers and driving human resource development through upskilling and reskilling programs in Laos.

• Progress of Work-Based Learning (WBL) under the ASEAN-Swiss TVET Initiative (ASTI) – Updates on the advancement of WBL programs aimed at equipping the Lao workforce with practical skills aligned with industry needs.

• Future Collaboration Opportunities – Exploring further cooperation with HELVETAS-led projects related to business sector development and vocational education.

The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of LNCCI and HELVETAS to fostering a skilled and competitive workforce in Laos, ensuring sustainable economic growth through strengthened public-private partnerships.
