Chinese markets open more doors for Lao exports
The public and private sectors have learnt about increased market access to China under its Generalised System of Preferences (GSP) scheme.
The country is offering tax privileges, up to 97 percent, for imported goods from Laos. The foreign Trade Department of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and the Lao-Chinese business cooperation promotion committee office to the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LNCCI) organized a meeting yesterday to provide details of goods that China is offering under its GSP scheme to Laos.
A meeting in progress on February 10, 2021 in Vientiane.
Some conditions of exporters are to be followed such as maintaining adequate hygiene of products, and sterilizing them. Details of where the goods have originated and steps taken before issuing an export certificate are to be mentioned by those who want to export to the Chinese market, according to a source at LNCCI.
The meeting was chaired by the Director-General of the Department, Mr Saysana Sayakone and the President of the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr Oudeth Souvannavong. More than 60 guests participated in the meeting. Participants also heard about the progress of business cooperation between Laos and China and were urged to increase cooperation to make sure more goods from Laos are accessible in Chinese markets.
